Mary O'Donohue, LVT — Head Veterinary Technician
Mary graduated from Blue Ridge Community College with an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Veterinary Technology in 1979. Past employment includes Roanoke Animal Hospital, Virginia Tech School of Veterinary Medicine, and Commonwealth Animal Hospital. As head veterinary technician of the treatment and surgical departments at Franklin County Animal Hospital, she enjoys the everyday challenges and changes of veterinary medicine. Mary and her husband James currently reside in Franklin County where they enjoy 5 acres backing up to the Blackwater River. Current pet population in the O'Donohue house includes Cal the cat and Katie a beagle mix adopted from FCAH. On days off Mary pursues her hobbies: a love to run, hike, bike, kayak, travel, and being with family and friends.
Robin Bell, LVT — Licensed Veterinary Technician
Robin graduated from Virginia Tech in 2003 with a BA degree in Animal Science and a minor in Biology. In 2006, she went on to receive her Associates of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Veterinary Technology from the Blue Ridge Community College program. Robin lives in Rocky Mount with her husband, 3 cats, 2 dogs, 2 horses, and a donkey! When she's not working, Robin enjoys spending time training and showing her youngest horse, sailing with her husband, and biking.
Amanda Chattin — Office Manager
Amanda has been with Franklin County Animal Hospital since 2006 as a receptionist and now, office manager. She loves pets and enjoys working with the public. Amanda also has a strong interest in massage therapy and is a Certified Massage Therapist. She was born and raised here in the Rocky Mount area. Amanda and her husband, Eric, currently live in Sontag with their two cats, Jasmine and Bender; their Pomeranian, Sadie; and their Labrador mix, Lance.
Tammy Tosh — Receptionist
Tammy has been a familiar face at the front desk of Franklin County Animal Hospital since 1990. She enjoys working with the clients and their animals. Away from the clinic, Tammy and her husband Enos enjoy traveling and sharing their lives with 11 Chow Chows that they actively show in American Kennel Club (AKC) Conformation Dog Shows all over the country.
Michelle Thompson — Receptionist
Michelle joined our team as a receptionist in 2017. She loves reading, spending time outdoors and traveling. She has a life-long passion for animal rescue and regularly volunteers her time to Franklin County Humane Society. Michelle lives in Ferrum with her husband, son, three dogs, cat, turtle and a bunch of fish.
Karen Kinsey — Veterinary Assistant
Karen has worked at Franklin County Animal Hospital since she was 16 years old and is the glue of the practice. She specializes in patient preventive care and oversees the clinic staff. Her wit and humor brighten every client's day while her compassion toward patients is overwhelming. Karen resides in Boones Mill with her many four-legged and feathered friends.
Anita Peirce — Veterinary Assistant
Anita joined the team in January 1998 and is one of our longest tenured members. Anita has many years of experience with animals including riding and showing horses, fitting and showing cattle, teaching obedience classes, showing and putting obedience titles on her welsh corgis, and working as a veterinary assistant.
She enjoys educating clients on preventive medicine and pet wellness practices. She knows how much our pets enrich our lives and wants to help them to live healthier, longer lives. Anita and her husband John live on a farm they share with six Quarter horses, two mini donkeys, one mini pony, a goat, five dogs, and three cats.
Megan Wunderlich — Veterinary Assistant
Megan joined our FCAH staff in 2011 after graduating from Franklin County High School. She is a veterinary assistant and especially likes preventative care client education.
At home, Megan loves spending time with family and her own three dogs and cat when she is not exploring the great outdoors. She also loves horses and wishes to someday own her own horse farm.
Deanna Gradwell — Veterinary Assistant
Deanna graduated high school in Hawaii and attended the University of Hawaii for her first two years of college. While in Hawaii she volunteered at Kapalama Pet Hospital and worked for Dogwalker Etc. She moved to Blacksburg to attend Virginia Tech in 2013 from which she earned her BS in Animal Science in December 2015.
Deanna joined our team in March 2016. While not at work her hobbies are kayaking, hiking, video games, and playing with her calico cat Daphne and her dog Hoss. Her dream is to specialize in animal behavior and offer training.
Mandy Harris — Veterinary Assistant
Mandy joined the team in April of 2014 as an animal care attendant. With her love of animals, compassionate way of nursing, and easy going attitude, she was moved into the position of veterinary assistant. She is currently taking classes with hopes of becoming a licensed veterinary technician. Mandy lives in Roanoke with her 2 dogs, Copper and Minnie, and 2 cats, Chester and Bobbee-Sue. She enjoys the outdoors in her free time, including hiking, fishing, and kayaking, as well as traveling.
Cornelia Cook — Pet Groomer
Cornelia Cook joined our team in 2003. After working several years as an Animal Care Attendant, she decided that she liked pampering pets. She now grooms dogs and cats of all breeds. Cornelia’s off time is spent with family and enjoying the lake.
David Mountcastle — Animal Care Attendant
Davey joined the FCAH team in 2014. He is an out going person who loves meeting new people and their pets. He also volunteers with Fire & Rescue because of his passion for helping people who are in need. Davey’s hobbies are hiking, fishing, and kayaking.
Jada Tolliver — Animal Care Attendant
Jada joined our team in the summer of 2017 as an Animal Care Attendant. Her love for the animals, cheery personality and eager to learn attitude have made her a star player on our team.
Jada has been accepted into the 2018 Veterinary Technology course at Blue Ridge Community College which will provide the training for her to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician in 2021.
Ashley Haywood — Animal Care Attendant
Ashley is a 2003 Franklin County High School graduate. Ashley always had a love of animals so she decided to turn this passion into a career! She joined the FCAH team in 2014. When she's not at work, Ashley enjoys being outdoors and spending time with daughter Jaidyn and family.
Krista Farrell — Animal Care Attendant
Krista started at FCAH in June 2016 as an Animal Care Attendant. She is originally from Fredericksburg, but moved to Franklin County to attend Ferrum College where she received a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and her teaching certification.
She currently teaches at Sontag Elementary and helps take care of our patients during breaks and holidays. When she is not at work or school, Krista enjoys playing with her loving dog, Brody.
