Services |
Franklin County Animal Hospital is proud to offer a complete range of services for our patients and their owners:
Preventative care. We feel very strongly that one of the most important services we can provide our patients is a comprehensive wellness plan. This starts a complete physical examination by one of our doctors for every patient that comes through our doors. Regular vaccination is an integral part of keeping your pet healthy. Just like their human caregivers, pets require vaccination for a whole host of diseases. Our doctors will be happy to develop an individualized vaccination schedule for you pet.
Diagnostic services. By utilizing state of the art, in-house laboratory equipment in conjunction with a specialized, veterinary only, outside reference laboratory, we are able to offer you a full battery of diagnostic options. For the critically ill patient, the ability to perform a complete blood chemistry panel and have the results in the doctor's hands in as soon as twenty minutes after drawing a blood sample, allows our doctors to start immediate treatment for anything identified as abnormal. More routine testing such as heartworm testing and fecal analysis for intestinal parasites is also performed on site with results available before you leave the office.
Internal medicine. Ranging from a simple allergy to more serious conditions such as diabetes and kidney failure, we treat a variety of diseases on a daily basis. While some cases require hospitalization, a large number of patients can be treated as out patients. We strive to get every patient home as soon as possible. We understand that most pets are happier, eat better and recovery more quickly in their home environment.
Surgery. Our doctors perform a wide range or surgical procedures from castration and spay to advanced orthopedic repairs and spinal surgery. All of our surgical procedures are performed in a dedicated operating room with the utmost concern for surgical field sterility and patient post-operative comfort. We are always happy to discuss the details of any procedure with our clients before their pets undergo surgery. All of our surgery patients are discharged with written instructions for their owners to follow at home.
Diagnostic imaging. We are able to take radiographs (x-rays) in-house and have them developed and in the doctors' hands within minutes. We are also pleased to have at our disposal a diagnostic ultrasound machine. Through the use of ultra high frequency sound waves, diagnostic ultrasound allows us to "see" inside of organs, watch a puppy wiggle and stretch in the womb, or watch the heart beating in real time. The two diagnostic capabilities complement each other and together can enable a more rapid and accurate diagnosis.
Referal. For those cases that either because of their complexity or the need for more intensive care, we are always willing to refer pets and their owners to a wide range of board-certified specialists at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Virginia Tech.
